Meet Ann Edvall

Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MCoun&PsychTh)
PACFA Reg.Certified Practising 31683
Certified practicing counsellor

Hello, and welcome to my practice.

I aim to gently and compassionately establish a secure therapeutic relationship with clients, providing a safe space to build self-esteem, acceptance, and motivation to navigate challenges such as grief, stress, addiction, life transitions, depression, anxiety, work-related issues, and relationship difficulties.

I bring a wealth of life experience to my work and, as a therapist with varied professional and personal experience, understand that we all have different needs, challenges, and wounds. I strive to be fully present with you and attuned to what you need to discuss and share.

My style is warm and authentic, integrating an awareness of potential trauma into my therapeutic approach. Drawing on various therapeutic theories, I tailor my approach to suit your unique needs, considering factors such as human development, personality traits, attachment issues, past experiences, and modern psychodynamic concepts.

My practice is rooted in person-centered therapy with psychodynamic principles. When beneficial, I incorporate clinically proven modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Mindfulness also serves as a cornerstone for self-reflection and grounding.

I have experience working with a wide range of client presentations and am also skilled in facilitating group sessions.

Helping women overcome mental health challenges requires addressing the social and political factors that contribute to their struggles. Women often face higher rates of anxiety, depression, and trauma due to systemic issues such as oppression, discrimination, gender-based violence, workplace inequality, and societal expectations. These factors can deeply impact their self-esteem, emotional well-being, and access to resources for recovery. Therapy should not only provide emotional support but also empower women by fostering resilience, self-advocacy, and coping strategies tailored to their unique experiences.

Walk-and-Talk Therapy

A study on walk-and-talk therapy by Greenleaf et al. (2023) found that walking during therapy sessions boosts creativity, enhances problem-solving, and strengthens the mind-body connection. Participants reported feeling more relaxed, with improved mood and clarity. Walking increases brain blood flow, reduces stress, and triggers feel-good chemicals like endorphins and endocannabinoids.

While city life can bring distractions like noise and privacy concerns, most study participants still found walking made therapy more effective. Being outdoors can boost creativity, clarity, and relaxation. Natural settings may enhance these benefits even more, making walk-and-talk therapy a powerful way to work through challenges.

Apart from the scientific benefits, it is also more affordable for you as an individual needing therapy. Hence, there is a lower fee for this form of therapy.

Things to consider when choosing this method:

  • If the weather is poor, we can reschedule or switch to a telehealth appointment.

  • Before starting, I will have a phone consultation with you to discuss your needs regarding both exercise and counselling.

  • You will receive a confidentiality form, ensuring the same level of privacy as a traditional therapy session.

  • We will arrange a designated meeting spot for our sessions.
